The Face Value of Share was a product of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) annual meeting in New Orleans last month. It’s a free, downloadable handout that contains brief questions to measure your awareness, knowledge, and understanding of a topic. The questions and descriptions are based on The APA’s new Self-Awareness Scale, which identifies your level of self-awareness with respect to a particular topic.
The Face Value of Share will not be included in this book. The product is a small, downloadable, free handout that shows you an example of your own answers to these questions. The questions were based on the Self-Awareness Scale’s five dimensions: Awareness, Knowledge, Knowledge of a Topic, Understanding a Topic, and Ability to Apply Knowledge.
Share is a little bit like those sticky notes you see in your office; you have to use it every now and then. It’s a nice little reminder to yourself or someone you care about, reminding you that you are valuable and that you matter. It’s a way of saying, “Hey! You are important.

You know the saying “You’re just a phone call away,” right? Well that is the same for a lot of people. It is the same for family, friends, co-workers, and clients. It is the same for people who like to have a conversation with others. It is the same for people who get paid to do something. It is the same for the people who are on your team. It is the same for the people who will watch your back.
It is the same for those people who feel they are in control of their own lives. Everyone has his or her own value system, and a lot of people will make their value statements in different ways. We all know someone who looks for the dollar signs in everything, and they will tell you that the money is the thing that matters, not the feeling you get in your gut every time you watch your team lose a game.
The value statement is an interesting thing. The way I talk about values is in terms of what I am willing to pay for them. If you are willing to pay a specific amount for a value and it is a hard number, then you are saying that you consider it important enough to get something else in return for it. A value statement is a way of saying what you value most, and you should never give yourself a hard number in this context.
A value statement is a way of saying what you value most, and you should never give yourself a hard number in this context. The value of a value is not what it is worth in money, but how important it is to your life, your family, your job, your community, and much, much more.
We’ve all had moments when we’ve been inspired by something, or had something we wanted to do, but the act of earning a dollar or two on the dollar felt too much like work and not enough like fun. And often the value we put on a dollar or two felt less valuable than the dollar or two we didn’t.
And this is the same thing that happens when you buy a car, or a book, or a movie, or a video game, or an episode of a TV show. The money you spend on any of these things is not the same as the money you put into it. It is, in fact, the money you put into it that has value. If you only spent $500 on a video game, it would still be worth $500.
